This is us creating our first finished backdrop. The final masterpiece is being kept under wraps until the big day so make sure you get your tickets for the 16th and 17th.

Work continued on our second backdrop on Tuesday night. Hard work but the results make it all worth it.

Two backdrops completed in one night! Now that's what I call team work! Massive thanks to Eilidh, Kyra, Jamie, Chris, Jack, Daniel, Liam and Samuel for their dedication to the project. Only one more to go!!!

Festive Food Drive!

Over the festive period the DRC Youth Committee will be promoting a food drive to help those who are most in need in our community. We will be collecting donations throughout December at the Yoker Community Campus (Donations can also be made during youth club hours at the Heart of Scotstoun Community Centre).

All donations will go towards supporting Glasgow Vineyard's 'Storehouse' project. Storehouse is a food-bank based in Patrick and Anniesland which aims to meet the immediate and long term needs of those who are destitute in the North and West of Glasgow.

Below are a list of items needed by the organisation.

During the festive period we need your support to help those who are most in need.

Let's spread the good will this Christmas!!

The victor for the evening was Dylan McDonald from the Scotstoun club. The first leg goes to Scotstoun, Yoker will be looking to peg things back at the next tournament in the 'Heart of Scotstoun' community centre. Well played everyone!

Y-POD - Youth Director's Online Directory

Y-POD is the youth provider's online directory based towards helping young people find what activities are available in their local area.  Myself and one other young person from the youth project were part of a team that helped make this website. There were also two other young people from different organisations involved in the project. Over 4 months, starting from the end of June till October we worked tirelessly to make the website for young people.

On the website you can find sections dedicated to help different groups of young people like young carers, families and professionals. For example: if a young single parent was looking for a play group and was new to an area, y-pod could tell the young person where these activities take place.

We are looking to advertise this website by mainly word of mouth through different organisations

Please visit this link and spread the word!!

Community Clean Up

Tonight we were working together with the 'Scouts' and 'DRC Environment Trust' on a community clean up of the local area. We set out for an hour and managed to collect 10 bags full of rubbish. We were shocked by how much litter we were able to collect in such a short space of time.

We're definitely going to look to make this a more regular activity. Both the DRCET and Scouts are up for working together again in the next few months. We achieved a lot in a very short space of time.

DRC Drama Group - 'CONSEQUENCES'.

Here is our drama group prepping their set before the BIG show last Wednesday. "CONSEQUENCES" was a drama piece which aimed to have young people consider the consequences when making decisions about drugs/ alcohol, bullying and peer pressure. The campus was so packed that the group had to do two shows to meet demand. Their hard work really paid off.

Everyone at the DRC Youth Project would like to thank 'Drumchapel Life' for funding and supporting the drama project.

G15 Youth Cup!

The Champions with the trophy!

DRC Girl's Team - Champions!

Very proud to say that the DRC Youth Project girl's football team won the G15 Youth Cup on Saturday!!! Amazing!

The team would like to thank the 'Grand Week Initiative' for all their continued support.

Clean Up Scotland's 'Ditch the Dirt Hero' award

Massive congratulations to Neil and his team at the 'DRC Environment Trust' for being awarded the 'Ditch the Dirt Hero' award. The youth committee worked together with the DRCET during Clean Up Scotland's two week campaign to highlight the issue of dog fouling in the local area. Members of the DRC Youth Project joined the DRCET at St. Paul's Primary (Whiteinch) to show their support.

'Ditch the Dirt Campaign' - Youth Committee

I'm a new member to the youth committee, on the 9th of September as part of 'Ditch the Dirt' campaign, we done a survey on the area of Yoker to see how much dog foul was in the local park and the cycle path. I was really shocked at the amount of dog waste there was in such a small area.
We are planning a community clean up of these areas of waste in the next couple of weeks.

DRC FC

Here is the team which faced 'Red Road' on Friday. The match finished 7-2. It was a tough away match to start the season but the lads stuck in there. There were many positives throughout, two well taken goals from Dylan McDonald showed there is much to look forward to in the season ahead. Onwards 'n' upwards!

Our Local MSYP

I’m Samuel Cook, 'DRC Youth Forum' member, 'Yoker Resource Group' committee attendee and local MSYP (Member of Scottish Youth Parliament). I was elected in June and this is my first post on the 'DRC Youth Project' blog. This is my week…

This week's events have consisted of a meeting with Sandy Busby (founding member of the 'Yoker Resource Centre' and current Senior Officer) in regards to setting up a surgery. The surgery would provide a regular opportunity to consult with young people in the community. We have also spoke about having an article in the Clydebank Post.

On Tuesday night I attended a 'DRC Youth Forum' session. We focused on some important issues affecting young people (you can view this work in a post below).

Friday gave me great pleasure in accepting the 'DRC FC' football strips ahead of our first game against 'Red Road'. This game is particularly special as it’s the first game of the new season, this game will also play an important role in breaking down cross community barriers. I’m pleased to say this team consists of boys (aged 15-18 years) from Scotstoun and Yoker. Hopefully this is a step forward in uniting a community.

DRC FC - New Strips

We are proud to show off our new 'DRC Football Club' home strip. We would like to thank the 'DRC Environment Trust' for their continued support.

Please visit http://dumbartonroad.wordpress.com/ to find out more information about the trust.

These included:

Sectarianism
Drugs & alcohol
Online bullying
Teenage pregnancies
Exam stress
Referendum
Lack of jobs/ opportunities
Teen suicide
Keeping up with fashion
Peer pressure
Problems at home

Pool Tournament

On Thursday 27th March we hosted a cross community pool tournament between Yoker and Scotstoun at the Yoker Resource Centre. 16 young people entered but there could only be one winner. Congratulations to Stephen Bell who beat Charlie McKechnie 2-1 in the final!

Rod Stewart!

Over the last few months we have been thinking of different ways to raise money for local charities and community events. We decided to contact celebrities associated with Glasgow and Scotland for donations. Rod Stewart's office in Beverly Hills kindly arranged for Mr Stewart to sign some items for us!!!! As seen below, we have donated a signed item to Lizzy Busby and will raffle off the other two items in the coming months. Respect to Rod!!

Presentation

We presented Lizzy Busby with a signed Rod Stewart album to thank her for all the fantastic work she has done for the youth project and the community.
